We run All Hands, the largest talent matchmaking program in social impact. We've collected an enormous amount of data about what works – and what doesn't work – to find a job in this sector today.
We’ve taken three of the most common questions we’re hearing in career coaching and shared what you should know below.
How Often Should You Post on LinkedIn When Job-Searching?
The instinct to treat posting as the lever solves for the wrong system. Recruiter visibility and feed visibility are two different mechanisms.
What actually moves your ranking in recruiter search is profile completeness. An incomplete profile ranks lower regardless of how active you are elsewhere. Fill in every section, make sure your headline and experience contain the keywords recruiters search for, and don't leave gaps.
The second lever is responsiveness, not content. Logging in regularly and responding to InMails promptly signals you're active and engaged — no posting required.
So the pressure to post weekly is largely self-imposed. Profile completeness matters. Responsiveness matters. Posting is optional. If you don't have anything to say right now, fix the profile instead.
How Do You Show Diversified Experience When You've Spent Most of Your Career at One Employer?
Don't apologize for the tenure. The fix isn't manufacturing variety you don't have — it's surfacing the variety already hidden by being at one employer for a long time.
Start with anything that already points outward: consulting or advisory work alongside your main role, industry awards, recognition, or speaking engagements that show sector-level credibility beyond your employer's name.
